Successful Adobe Beautification Day Clears Up Major Dump Sites

Delta County, Colo., June 20, 2024—Delta County, The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and Delta Compost are proud to announce the successful completion of the Adobe Beautification Day held on Friday, June 14th. Volunteers cleaned up over three major dump sites, significantly impacting our community's environment in the Adobe Badlands.

Over 50 tires and 24 large landscaping trash bags were filled with debris. Volunteers also hauled away four small trailers, three yard-long trailers, and several dump trailers full of waste, all taken to the dump for proper disposal.

The BLM marked multiple sites with red flags indicating the presence of hazardous materials. These sites require specialized cleaning by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) or other safety groups. We urge community members to avoid these flagged areas to ensure their safety.

Adobe Beautification Day is part of an initiative the Delta County Commissioners started over five years ago to bring awareness to illegal dumping in Delta County. We are watching, and if you are caught, we will ticket and fine you. If you see something, say something. Call the Delta County Dispatch number at 970-874-2015.

We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and hard work of all the community organizations and volunteers who participated in this event," said Lindsay Mitchell, Public Information Officer of Delta County. "Their efforts have made a tangible difference in our community by raising awareness about illegal dumping. We are seeing less dumping, which suggests that the visibility of these clean-up efforts is making people reconsider their actions. When they see their neighbors, family, friends, and coworkers out here cleaning up trash, it encourages them to take their waste to the landfill for proper disposal instead of dumping it illegally."

Looking ahead, we are excited to announce our next clean-up event, which is planned for the Fall. We invite everyone to join us, as the more people we have, the more sites we can conquer together. Please keep an eye out on our social media page, in the newspapers, and for radio ads announcing the next date.

Thank you to everyone who came out to help during Adobe Beautification Day. We deeply appreciate your commitment to keeping our community clean and safe.
